textIf you are not at your own computer and there is no software to write a letter, if you don’t trust Microsoft Word, if you are at the airport and you need something secure to write an important document, or if you don’t want to spend a dime on any writing application, there are many solutions for you. Many of them are related to Web.20. Did you know that you can write on Internet for free without downloading any software? Give a look at these web sites and find out how powerful an online text editor can be.

  1. Online Word Processor – Zoho Writer Zoho writer is a powerful online word processor to write and share documents online. No need to download any program. You need your preferred Internet browser and you start type right away. You can create documents with the following extensions: Word, SXW, PDF, ODT, RTF, TXT and HTML. You can also import documents in Word, SXW, ODT, RTF, JPG, GIF, PNG, HTML and TXT formats. From Zoho Writer you can also post what you write to your blog and publish online for public view. It is also provided with a user-friendly toolbar reminding the Microsoft Word one and having the same tools.

  2. ThinkFree It is an online office application with many features. As a matter of fact it is a word processor, a spreadsheet and a presentation tool. It is compatibles 100% with Microsoft Office (.doc, .xls, .ppt) and it is platform independent (works on Windows, Apple, Linux). It comes with 1Gb of free space and works with all the major Internet browsers.

  3. ajaxWrite A very fast, easy and simple Word processor able to write and read Microsoft Word documents. It is designed to look like Microsoft Word so no extra knowledge is required. It need Firefox 1,5 or higher to run.

  4. Flyword It creates Word documents & Excel spreadsheets in Microsoft format. You can share them online and let your coworkers work on them. Flyword doesn’t forget your privacy and it gives you the possibility to restrict permission for each user. You can also set an expiration date to your work.

  5. InNetWord A very well done Word processor rich of features and extremely similar to Microsoft Word. You can do everything with it: write documents, insert pictures and videos, make tables, print, apply colors and use a wide range of fonts. You have the possibility to share your documents and folders and view highlighted changes others made. I was very impressed by it.

  6. Google Docs The most famous (and most overrated in my opinion) Word processor. It creates files with the following extensions: DOC, XLS, ODT, ODS, RTF, CSV, PPT, etc. It lets you share your work online with other people and see what kind of changes they make on-the-fly. Good application, but not the best available.
