Toshiba has always been famous for its fantistic powerful laptops. Now it looks like they are going to hit the market again with another milestone which has recently been announced as the successor of the A200. The new Satellite A300 will sports a 15.4-inch display, built-in fingerprint reader, 1.3-megapixel camera, integrated microphone. As far as its hardware is concerned you will have to expect something like this: 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and a Core 2 Duo T5500 (A300-124) or T8100 (A300-11I). Nothing exceptional to tell you the truth, but at least the design is nice and sleek! No word about its price or its release date.

I have to be honest with you. While I was watching this video I was really feeling sick. I was on the verge of crying and I really wanted to do something to stop the guy from torturing his Asus Eee. As close as two weeks ago I quarreled with my wife because she dropped my nice Nikon S500 on the floor. Looking at what this guy did, make me think that maybe I am crazy to be so careful when it comes to handling my devices…or maybe the real mad is him. Or maybe both of us. To know what I am talking about watch the video now. If you are sensitive, please don’t watch it!

microsoft logoLet me be straight about this. If you think to remove or uninstall Windows Media Center (WMC) well, change your mind because you can not. In fact the package is an inbuilt Windows Vista application and, just because of this, you have to keep it, no matter if you like it or not. A thing you can do anyway, is to disable it so that it won’t bother you anymore. But apart from the bothering side, WMC is also a resource eater that requires a lot of RAM to run. If you want to get rid of it and have your computer faster read this trick:

  1. Click on “Start”
  2. Click on “Run” and edit services.msc”
  3. A windows will appear. Find all these services and disable them: Windows Media Center Extender Service, Windows Media Center Receiver Service, Windows Media Center Scheduler Service, Windows Media Center Service Launcher (and other services which have the launch or launcher word and thast are related with WMC)
  4. Click on “Start” again
  5. Click on “Run” and edit MSConfig”
  6. Go to “Startup” tab
  7. Uncheck those entries which have the ehome as path such as ehTray.exe. This will prevent MCE to start when you turn on your PC.
  8. Done!

Now to make the changes permanent you need to turn off and on your computer. Once done you should experience a faster, lighter Windows Vista! For more Vista news, trick and hacks click here. If you want to have a really lighter Windows Vista click here.

microsoft logoWindows Defender is a nice feature that let’s you protect your computer from unwanted malware such as: spyware, pestware, crapware, certain kind of viruses etc. Thanks to this inbuilt application, that is not recommended to disable, Vista detects any treat your computer comes in touch with, removes and quarantines it. Some people anyway, may wish to disable it because, for instance, they trust other applications which are more secure and complete. The solution to get rid of it, is to disable it by turning it off. This feature is very easy to spot since its among its option. Here is the trick:

  1. Run Windows Defender from Start Menu.
  2. Click “Tool”.
  3. Click Option located under “Tools and Settings”.
  4. Uncheck the check boxes: Use real-time protection (recommended) located under Real-Time protection option, Use Windows Defender located under “Administrator options”.
  5. Click “Save”
  6. A window will appear confirming that you disabled the application. Close it.
  7. Install another software offering the same protection.

As you know I am always looking for new devices that can integrate as much technology as possible. I hate having different devices doing differently things. A phone to call, a camera to take shots, a Mp3 reader to listen to my music. Why can not I have a single device doing all this? Luckily for me (and for you guys) big companies are becoming more and more aware about this and try to create new devices having many services and functions. One of this company called iRiver has recently made public its new tool called UNIT 2 which integrate many applications namely: CD/DVD player, FM tuner, TV tuner, VoIP phone, VoIP Video Phone, WiFi support and a fast browser to surf the web! Its specs are: base Unit and portable Unit, 2GB NAND Flash and 30GB hard drive, with SD memory card slot, 7-inch (800×480 pixels) 16:9 screen. No word about its price or release date. Watch the video to know how it works!

Again, the new ultraportable trend is infecting more and more companies. This time it is the turn of a Koren company called Kojinsha which made public the launch of its new ultraportable called E8. The tiny laptop sports a AMD Geode LX800 CPU, 40Gb hard disk, 512 RAM and a 7-inch touchscreen whose resolution is of 1024 x 600. The real fascionable thing here, is that the screen can rotate, and this makes this new ultraportable even sexier and geekier! The baby will be available the February 29th at about $600.

One of the things I really like about my Nintendo DS is the big homebrew community that is always at work to create new applications to expand the way we use the little console. Today I want to speak about a little program I came across some months ago, and that I regularly use since then. It is called DS Weather report and, if you have a WiFi connection, lets you check the weather all over Europe (no USA sorry). The website is in french so I will try to write the most important feature here:

  • Complete maps of all Europe
  • Zoom in and zoom out
  • More than 3300 cities in the database (and always more than 40000 cities available by code)
  • Fast download time of weather information: a cache is used on a server, with a duration of one hour.
  • Read along the cities temperatures and local weather the most important news available on Internet
  • Touch screen features
  • Lots of info available such as: temperature, humidity, wind, UV etc.

If you want to download the application click here. Remember, to use this homebrew application you have to own a slot such as R4. Read more about homebrew here.
