A new version of the famous Windows XP Service Pack RC2 has been released in the wild! If you are thinking about the fact that there may be important improvements, you could be disappointed by the fact that this version has basically nothing new in comparison to the XP SP3 RC2 (build 3311). At least this is what Chris Keroack from Windows Serviceability Team says. In fact, this version aims to consolidate and validate some of its most important fixes. This may indicate that the final version is probailiy near. Keep in mind that if you want to download it, you will have to apply the little hack written in this previous post of mine. The hack is composed by a little archive (.zip) containing a file named XPSP3_RC2.cmd. This file hacks the registry so that the system will become the service pack target install machine. Here is the link to download Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC2 Refresh Build 5508. As usual, before installing this new SP you have to uninstall any previous SP.
