Gmail theme

It looks like Google has decided to surprise us all. In fact, after the Google Flu Trend, the voice and video chat features in Gmail, and the SMS feature in Gmail, the big G has rolled out 30 new exciting themes for his Gmail in order to improve its too-ordinary-and-plain interface and attract new users. Ok, nothing new here. First of all because this new feature was added last Wednesday (hey, I was busy doing my private matters and I couldn’t update the blog!) and secondly because somebody else had already thought about how to modify the boring Gmail theme. But what the heck! These new themes are so cool that I can’t help speaking about them! My preferred themes? OK, I love, really love Marina and Desk! And you? What’s your favorite? Gosh! I had almost forgotten! The news are not finished.

I almost forgot. In fact Google has added SearchWiki capabilities to its famous search engine. But what does the heck mean? It means that if you want you can personalise the way Google shows results to you. Now you can…”customize search by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results. With just a single click you can move the results you like to the top or add a new site. You can also write notes attached to a particular site and remove results that you don’t feel belong. These modifications will be shown to you every time you do the same search in the future.” Things to keep in mind:

  • This service is only available if you sign-in Google.
  • The changes affect only your search.
  • If you click “See all notes for this SearchWiki” you will be able to see how the community edited the search results.
