vistaThere are a lot of ways to reduce the time your Windows Vista takes to shut down. Here are a couple of tricks you may find very useful to have a fast shut down. Here instead you can find set of tricks to make your Vista quite fast. Anyway, today I am here to talk about other ways to reduce the amount your Vista takes before letting you go to sleep. As a matter of fact, once you have finished working on your computer, what’s better that being able to turn it off in a couple of seconds without having to wait in order to make sure that everything is all right? I want to be straight. Sometimes all this waiting can be very frustrating, above all if there is some application or service which doesn’t want to listen to any reason and stubbornly continue to hang.

Force your applications to shut down

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the seach box, type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  4. In the right pane look for this sub-key: AutoEndTasks
  5. Right-click on AutoEndTasks and give it the value 1.
  6. Exit the registry.
  7. Turn your computer on and off to apply the change.

Set the time before Windows Vista start killing its own services

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the seach box, type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
  4. In the right pane look for this sub-key: WaitToKillServiceTimeout
  5. Right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and give it the value 1000.
  6. Exit the registry.
  7. Turn your computer on and off to apply the change.

Prevent Windows from cleaning the pagefiles on shut down. (this will reduce the shutdown time)

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the seach box, type regedit and hit Enter.
  3. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\ Memory Management
  4. In the right pane look for this sub-key: ClearPageFileOnShutdown
  5. Right-click on ClearPageFileOnShutdown and give it the value 0.
  6. Exit the registry.
  7. Turn your computer on and off to apply the change.
