I haven’t written about Firefox for a while, I have to admit it. Of course this doesn’t mean there aren’t any news. As a matter of fact, the Mozilla team is working frantically to release it new Firefox version 3.1 which, in the meantime, has reached beta 2. A lot of improvements are awaiting us and the most important one is, without any doubt, TraceMonkey, a new JavaScript optimization feature which should improve Firefox performance dramatically.
Firefox 3.1 will be quite rich of features and improvements (most of them are pulled back from Firefox 3) which will let you experience the joy of surfing even better. Here is a brief list of what you have to expect from Mozilla’s next Red Fox!
- Tabbed browsing. Firefox is getting serious about its tabbing feature. In fact, the tab bar is now always visible, plus a new tabbing button has been added to let you discover the pleasure of using tab browsing at first glance.
- Performance has been improves dramatically thanks to Tracemonkey which, like I said, is a new JavaScript optimization feature able to improve web navigation.
- One of the biggest news in Google Chome is its interesting Incognito Mode to let you surf without leaving any fingerprint on your computer. Firefox has gave credit to this useful feature by adding a Private Browsing Mode as well. Once this mode is enabled everything including pages visited, searches, completed forms, cookies, and download history will be deleted once you exit from it or from Firefox itself.
- Better Page Source. Page source is that interesting feature located under the Edit option which shows you the page source code of a website. In Firefox 3.1 every link such as JavaScript files or CSS files will be clickable.
- Better Session Restore dialog. If your last session closed unexpectedly in your Firefox, you are able to restore everything you were visiting without any special worry. FF 3.1 will manage this Session Restore in a better way by letting you decide which tab or window you want to restore.
- Web content. A lot of improvements as far as Web content is concerned are going to enhance the way websites are displayed. Here is a brief list of the most important ones: Support for HTML 5 drag and drop specification, support for embedded fonts, support for new technologies such as video and audio, W3C Geolocation API, CSS 2.1 and 3 properties and much more.
