While trying to run Disk Defragmenter in your Windows XP, you might get this error: “The Disk Defragmenter is not installed on your computer. To install it, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon in Control Panel, click the Install/Uninstall tab, and then follow the instructions on your screen.” Here are a couple of solutions which can solve this issue.
First method
- Click Start.
- Click Run, type regedit and press Enter.
- Locate the following sub-key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ MyComputer \ DefragPath
- Double-click on DefragPath and change the value to C:\Windows\system32\dfrg.msc %c:
- Exit the registry, turn off and back on your computer for the changes to take effect.
Second method
- Click Start.
- Click Run and type %windir%\INF
- Locate the file dfrg.inf
- Right-click it and select Install.
