adsenseA couple of days ago, the guys at Google announced a new thrilling ads format available  in the Adsense program that can directly appears on your pages. This format  is called Expandable Ads and it’s basically a rich media ads which is able to expand beyond its original dimensions upon a user-initiated action.

In this way, Expandable Ads will generate more real estate for the ads, enhancing your site  in terms of multimedia. As a matter of fact, this ads is able to stream a movie trailer, show video game clips, or display various views of an item for sale. The way bloggers will earn from it, is basically the same one belonging to the other ads in the Adsense program. In fact, Expandable Ads are priced on a cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-impression (CPM) basis. One important thing to keep in mind is that bloggers will earn when a user visits the advertiser’s landing page, and not when a user simply clicks to expand the ads. Many users may find this new ads quite bothering and “intrusive” but Google points out that:

  • The ads will expand only when a person click it.
  • The ads won’t expand more than double its width or height.
  • The user can choose to close it at any time.
  • All expandable ads must comply with our standard AdWords image ad policies.

In order to take advantage of the new Expandable Ads, you need to have the Adsense code in your blog (of course) and have it enabled to receive and show image ads.
