Windows VistaRecently, Microsoft has released  two sets of  brand new extra sound packages for Windows Vista. These packages, also called Windows Sound Schemes, are composed of Ultimate Extras Glass and Ultimate Extras Pearl aiming to enhance the sounds Windows Vista plays when users perform actions on it. Windows Sound Schemes are released via Windows Update and, alas, are only available to users owning Windows Vista Ultimate system with Ultimate Extras feature. Anyway, if you are curious to try out these sounds on your Windows Vista Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Enterprise, here are the   links directly taken from Windows Update Servers!

Once you have downloaded the packages which, by the way, also work in Windows XP, you have to install and activate them manually. Here is the step-by-step procedure:

  1. Right-click on the Volume icon located in the system-tray (bottom-right side of your screen)
  2. Click Sounds.
  3. Now click Ultimate Extras Glass or Ultimate Extras Pearl from the drop down menu located under Sound Schemes.
  4. Click OK.
