One of the most cryptically sentences Microsoft has ever made with its products its the famous phrase in Microsoft Word ” Lorem Ipsum…”. Don’t lose too much time to try to translate it. In fact, it doesn’t mean anything and no, it won’t take you to some mysterious Microsoft Holy Gray treasure buried somewhere in the Bill Gate mansion! “Lorem Ipsum…” is nothing else than a latin-looking sentence used as filler text to test the general look and feel of a document. Here is a nice trick on how to automatically create and generate such a sentence without having to type it word by word!
- Open a new Microsoft word document.
- type =lorem() and hit Enter.
- This simple code will create three paragraphs of Lorem Ipsum characters.
- If you wish to get something longer, you can control what the code above generates thanks to simple variables: =lorem(Number of Paragraphs, Number of Lines).
- Here is an example: =lorem(4,7) This code will automatically generate 4 paragraphs of Lorem Ipsum text and it will span across 7 sentences.
- The lorem() function is available in Word 2007.

Another one of those cool undocumented features! I’ve always kept a text file with the “lorem ipsum” text in it to use as placeholder text for web design, content estimating, etc., but now with this trick, I have it at my fingertips. Thanks!

“=rand(n)” where ‘n’ is a number. You will create whole sections with sentences which this time…make sense! Enjoy!

Ah, the old Lorem Ipsum trick! Thanks. I usually waited until the end to try out formatting, now I can do it up front. Much better. Where do you find this stuff. Do you have a life outside of MicroSoft?
