vistaI have already written about this topic, widely. In fact, if you remember, I wrote about a freeware application which lets you disable shortcut icon arrows in Windows Vista. Anyway, if you are one of those guys who like doing everything manually, here is the step-by-step procedure which will lead you among settings and Windows registry’s keys!

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search box, type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Navigate in the registry and locate the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer.
  4. Right-click on the left pane and from the the menu create a new Key. Name it Shell Icons.
  5. Right click on Shell Icons, choose New – String Value, and name it  29.
  6. On the right pane, double click on the key 29 and assign it the following value: %SystemRoot%\\noarrow.ico,0
  7. Download noarrow.ico, and save it to C:\Windows.
  8. Restart your computer for the change to take effect.
  9. Done!
