vistaMicrosoft has recently released  Windows Vista official Service Pack 2 (SP2) through its servers, for free download. Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 is just the same executable file updating both systems including all hotfixes and updates released since Windows Vista SP1.

This Service Pack is part of a series of “waves” (read Service Packs)   meant to update all Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 scattered all around the world. This first wave just updates systems having the following language: English, German, French, Japanese, and Spanish. It can be installed on all editions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, including Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 Standard, Windows Server 2008 Web Server and Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems.

As usual, I would like to point out that, in order to successfully install SP2, your machine needs to have  the SP1 completely  installed on a untouched Windows Vista. I used “completely” and “untouched” terms for a specific reason.  As a matter of fact, if you used vlite to customize your Windows Vista, you might get the error message “One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing” while installing SP2. If this is your case, here is the solution marked as  KB968279 to solve it.
