If you use Facebook Chat to stay connected with your friends, family members and coworkers you might need to hide your online status to certain people so that you will appear offline to a specific group of people while you are engaged during a conversation. In this way you won’t be bothered and  disturbed by other contacts on your friend list. Facebook has recently rolled out an interesting features letting you control which friends see you online.

If you wish to appear offline to a definite number of contacts on your friend list in Facebook Chat, here is what to do:

• First of all you need to create a Friend List. To do it, simply select the “Friend Lists” menu on the Chat pane, enter a new list name, and drag the names of people you want to include into the list. If some of your friend are not included in this list they will be included under “Other Friends.”
• On each list you will notice a green switch. If you turn off that switch you’ll be logging off of Chat for that list. Friends in lists that are switched off will not be able to see that you are online or chat with you, nor will you be able to see whether they are online.
