A few days after the software was leaked in the Internet, Microsoft has released the official Microsoft Security Essentials (Morro) beta version for free download. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus/antispyware software designed to replace Windows Live OneCare and Windows Defender. The software can be downloaded directly at www.microsoft.com/ security_essentials/ but according to the website, Microsoft Security Essentials is only available to customers living in in the United States, Israel (English only), People’s Republic of China (Simplified Chinese only) and Brazil (Brazilian Portuguese only). As a matter of fact, if you live outside such countries and try to download the software from the website, you will get the following message: “You appear to be in a country or region where the Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is unavailable”.
If you don’t live in the counties mentioned above and can’t download Microsoft Security Essential, you can download the leaked version here.
