Apple has recently released the brand new firmware OS 3.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch.  The firmware aims to upgrade and update the first and second generation of iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS plus iPod Touch. Such a software is free for download  by simply downloading it from iTunes. However  iPod Touch owners will have to pay $9.95 to get it.  Here is a quick list of the new firmware OS 3.0 features.

• Shake  your iPhone and it will shuffle to a different song in your music library.
• Support for 30 languages and more than 40 keyboard layouts.
• Run the next generation of iPhone apps, like peer-to-peer games.

The new Firmware OS 3.0 is available for free to all original, unmodified iPhone and iPhone 3G, while owners of the iPod will have to pay $9.95 if they want to update and upgrade their devices. However, if you wish to upgrade and update your  iPod Touch to the new OS 3.0, here is a nice guide which is going to be very useful to you!

1. Download the latest version of iTunes.
2. Download iPod Touch 2G OS firmware, or iPod Touch 1G OS firmware 3.0.
3. If the above files are different from the .ipsw extension rename them and reassign the .ipsw extension.
4. Plug in your iPod Touch to the PC and opn your iTunes.
5. Select your iPod Touch from the device list.
6. On the iTunes main screen you should be able to see “Check for update”. Click it.
7. A web page showing the iPod Touch OS firmware 3.0 features and offering option to buy for $9.99 will be loaded and shown. Click  Cancel. This will let you return to the previous page where the “Check for update” link will be replaced by “Update”.
8. Now, in Windows, press and hold Shift key and left click Update. In Mac OS X system, press and hold Option key and left click Update.
9. Look for iPod Touch OS 3.0 Apple Device firmware file downloaded in step number 2 and select it.
10. At this point your iPod Touch will start the update and upgrade procedure.
11. Done!
