A couple of days ago I was contacted by the guys from Microsoft asking me to talk about their latest, interesting ISV compatibility test for Windows 7. The idea behind this product is to give companies producing software a chance to be ahead of their competitors and get the green light directly from Microsoft by producing software and applications compatible with the next Microsoft operating system, Windows 7. Basically, Microsoft wants to give companies which produce applications the ability to check the compatibility before these technologies are released to the market. The purpose of the program is to lessen incompatibility problems that final users who make the transition may face. Continue reading »

A few days after the software was leaked in the Internet, Microsoft has released the official Microsoft Security Essentials (Morro) beta version for free download. Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus/antispyware software designed to replace Windows Live OneCare and Windows Defender. The software can be downloaded directly at www.microsoft.com/ security_essentials/ but according to the website, Microsoft Security Essentials is only available to customers living in in the United States, Israel (English only), People’s Republic of China (Simplified Chinese only) and Brazil (Brazilian Portuguese only). As a matter of fact, if you live outside such countries and try to download the software from the website, you will get the following message: “You appear to be in a country or region where the Microsoft Security Essentials Beta is unavailable”. I have to tell that I love, really love Wi-fi radios. However, the issue with them is that it looks like big companies aren’t taking them too seriously. Samsung has recently announced a new Solid State Drive (SSD) which will be able to fit into a mini-PCIe card, whose capacity can reach up to 64 GB in a form-factor nearly 80-percent smaller than a 2.5-inch drive. The new little SSD is intended not only for netbooks but as a secondary or complementary drive for regular notebooks. Samsung mini-PCIe SSD weights only 8.5g and it can read at 200MB/s and write at 100MB/s. It supports full-drive encryption and is shock-resistant.
