That’s the latest hot news which is bouncing in the Internet right now! As a matter of fact, as late as yesterday Google  has stated to be working on its own open source Operating System called Google Chrome OS. The news was released yesterday (7/07/2009 09:37:00 PM)  on the Official Google blog.  Let’s see in details more info about Google Chrome OS.

Reading from Google blog: “Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.”

Other info includes:

  • It will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips.
  • Linux kernel.
  • The web will be its platform.
  • Minimum Users Interface. Extremely easy to use.
  • Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS.

To tell you the truth, I have already covered this topic. As a matter of fact, Google is not new at creating new Operating Systems from scratch. You may want to have a look at  gOS Cloud.

I’m not at all sure if this idea will turn out to be successful. Look at Android – here in Australia there are only 2 models running it (hardly a success). Besides, the concept of the Web (with all its faults) being the platform is very dubious. But let’s wait and see!

    hello,
if you ask me this new OS will be a great hit. Android is part of a niche market just few people access (smartphones). But when it comes to OS for PC there is more at stake and figures change drammatically since there are literally millions of computers in the world. My best bet is that Google OS will be the new trend which will be able to eat some share from Microsoft!

It reminds me of when Microsoft had their dirty little fingers in every little space of a computer. You weren’t sure if they were up to any good, and then they went through antitrust suits…

Google looks to be trying to commandeer every PC in the same way, but with smarter business practices. Would you want your PC to have everything Google or Microsoft or any other company? I like to mix it up a little myself.
