Garmin is famous all over the world for its great GPS devices available for cars and motorbikes containing full, detailed  maps (mapsources) of majority of countries. If you own one of these GPS units and you wish, for any reasons, to restore its original factory settings or gain access to its Maintenance Mode with system information and diagnostic details,  here are a couple of procedures to follow.

If you want to gain access to the maintenance mode or restore original factory settings in your Garmin GPS device, just follow these procedures:

First Procedure (only for Garmin Nuvi 660, 680 series)

1. Turn off your Garmin device.
2. Keep pressing the upper top left corner of the screen and turn on the device by pressing once  the Power button.
3. At this point the system should be prompted you to clear all user data. Alternatively, you should be asked if  you really want to start up in maintenance mode.
4. Press Yes to reset or gain access to the Maintenance Mode.

Second Procedure (only for Garmin Nuvi 200, 250, 360 750, 760 series)

1. Turn off your Garmin device.
2. Keep pressing the bottom right corner of the screen, and then turn on the device.
3. t this point the system should be prompted you to clear all user data. Alternatively you should be asked if  you really want to start up in maintenance mode.
4. Press Yes to reset or gain access to the Maintenance Mode.

Both these procedure just erase data in the device memory that is not accessible  when the unit is connected to PC. These procedures don’t delete .gpi or .gpx files nor your personal files such as MP3 music, JPG photos etc.
