windows 7Sometimes the recycle bin in Windows 7 may become unusable, stuck and corrupted preventing you from emptying it or deleting its files. Here is a quick solution, an easy step-by-step guide which will restore and reset your recycle bin.

  1. The first step to do is to make hidden files and folders as well as protected  files visible. So, click Start.
  2. Click Computer.
  3. Now click the ALT button on your keyboard to get the Menu.
  4. Click Tools and select Folder Options.
  5. Now, select the View tab.
  6. In the menu, locate Hidden files and folders and select Show hidden files and folders.
  7. Untick Hide protected operating system files.
  8. Click OK to confirm.
  9. Under Computer, click your C:/ drive or the drive where you have installed your OS.
  10. Find $Recycle.Bin and delete it.
  11. If the system ask to confirm such an operation, do it without further delay.
  12. If the UAC prompt appears, click the Continue button.
  13. AT this point, the Delete File dialog will appear, check the Do this for all current items checkbox and click the Yes button.
  14. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

    Thank you for your directions to resolve the error message on Windows 7 OS, CCleaner Version 3.111541, “CCleaner stopped working”. “Windows will look for a solution to the problem and notify if it is available.” The recycling bin was apparently corrupted and deleting it was the solution. Thank you, thank you. I have been attempting to correct the problem for days and many installs, uninstalls and reinstalls. CCleaner was working great the day before I downloaded the update and then everything went sour! Nap
