windows 7In Windows 7, if you place the mouse pointer over the button (in the taskbar) of a running application, a little thumbnail preview of the application itself will appear right away. If you hover the mouse pointer over such a thumbnail you will be able to see a live preview of the window. Let’s see how to change and modify the  live preview hover delay to adjust it for your needs.

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search box, type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Navigate and locate the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Advanced.
  4. Right-click  Advanced and from the menu select  New DWORD. Name it ThumbnailLivePreviewHoverTime.
  5. Right-Click the new DWORD and select Modify.
  6. Select Modify from the menu. Switch to Decimal and your favorite number. This number expresses the lapse of time in milliseconds so that, for example,  if you want to delay the taskbar live preview (thumbnail preview) to 3 seconds you will have to input 3000.
  7. Click OK, exit regedit and restart your computer for the change to take effect.
