I installed Windows 7 on an xp machine with an upgrade disc. I ma getting the error indicated above. I assume I will need to reinstall XP to get the product registered. My question is will the reinstallation of XP wipe out my data and the other installed programs?

Delete ei.cfg before you burn the full install disk and when you do a clean install sellect the same version you have the key for… and it will take the upgrade key first time without any tweaking… .or going back to older versions.etc.
