windows 7Once installed, Windows 7 won’t allow you to downgrade from Windows 7 expensive editions to cheap and basic ones. There is a strict hierarchy which goes like this: Starter … Home Basic … Home Premium … Professional … Ultimate. For example, if you have Windows 7 Ultimate you won’t be able to downgrade to Windows 7 Premium or Basic and, of course, you can not upgrade from low editions to high ones. The downgrade restriction lock has been put by Microsoft to prevent people from messing with tricky and difficult procedures. But, here is a “simple” hack which allows you to embed the downgrade procedure in Windows 7.

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search Box, type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Navigate to this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion
  4. In the right pane, click EditionID and ProductName and give them the value which corresponds to a lower Windows 7 edition. Here is an example:
  5. Windows 7 Home Premium (downgrade from  Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium)
    EditionID: HomePremium
    ProductName: Windows 7 HomePremium

  6. Start your Windows 7 installation by inserting your Windows 7 Disc.
  7. Now, Select Upgrade as type of installation. Follow the instruction on the screen.
  8. Reactivate your operating system.

I did a big mistake:- i was tempted to use the Aero, so i clicked on wondows anyime upgrade and entered a false key from the website and i clicked on accept and then later after a few minuted nothing happened, so i switched off my laptop and then it said upgrading windows….I was surprised and waited for the upgrade and when it was done, i got Aero, but to my nightmare it said that ”This is not a genuine product of windows/microsoft and i must update the windows and the message kept pooping up everytime, i was shocked and called up my friend a technican and this is what he said:-

Open system restore and select at least two days from today and when the computer restarts, click on F8 for safe mode and once in safe mode, wait for some time, make small changes like copying files etc and this must only be done, if you get a message stating that system restore successful and then restart your pc/laptop and you will see that its resotred just like what was there before.

If you bought the laptop with the software pre-installed, take it back to the vendor and ask them to give you a genuine copy of windows. If you installed a pirated copy, you have to buy a new copy of Windows, or use a free OS like Ubuntu. You can use the Upgrade option on the Windows installation CD to upgrade to Windows Ultimate (if you use pirated Windows, the message will remain).

    To jone
Your Windows CD is corrupt. You should get a new copy from somewhere, and you can use your Product Key during installation.
