Have you ever tried to create a shortcut for a certain file or folder? I am pretty sure that you are familiar with the annoying shortcut text message, the prefix ” – Shortcut” which is inevitably created by the system and appended next to the file or folder name. Here is a simple hack to remove it for good.
In order to remove and eliminate the shortcut text automatically upon the creating of a shortcut, here is what you have got to do:
- Click Start.
- In the Search Box, type regedit and press Enter.
- Locate the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer
- In the right pane, double click the Link subkey and change the binary value data to 00 00 00 00
- Restart the computer for the change to take effect.
- Done!

This isn’t a biggie, but it is useful. You should always include a disclaimer about changing the registry, make a back-up before hand, etc.
