windows 7Sometimes, when you try to open a hard disk drive on your computer, you will get, as a result, a frustrating “Open with…” dialog box. Usually, this kind of message is the consequence of a virus attack which messed up the autorun command.  Here is an easy tutorial to delete the virus and restore the infected drive.

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search box, type CMD and press Enter.
  3. Now, type attrib and press Enter. This command will return you with a list of files belonging to the drive you want to “heal”.
  4. Type this command attrib -s -h -r *.* This will simply reset all the files in the drive.
  5. Now, delete all the files having the SHR attribute. This will also delete the virus which infected the files. To delete the SHR files, type del file.extension
  6. Restart your computer for the changes to have effect!
