This is the big news bouncing in the Internet right now!  A well-known  hacker, George Hotz (who you might remember because he was the first person to hack the iPhone) has recently announced to the world to have successfully managed to hack the gaming console Playstation 3!

Despite the fact that he has not released the code to hack the PS3, he said that he will do it soon. He took around 5 weeks to hack it (three weeks to analyze its hardware components and another two weeks to actually break the device). His console (with firmware 2.4.2,) is now able to play PS2 games, PS3 pirated games and homemade software. According to his interview to the BBC, his hack, which injects a code through a vulnerability, doesn’t break the whole console. Here is a small  excerpt of his interview:

“I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I’ve also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.”
