A Web Talk’s reader, Tad, wrote me about a nice tutorial for Windows 7. A nice feature in Windows 7 is the new Notification Area which lets you show and hide icons on the taskbar. The issue is that after installing a lot of applications, you will have a big list, cluttered with dozens of entries. Here is a nice hack to clean it in…one click!
- Click Start.
- In the Search field, type notepad and press Enter.
- On the Notepad, paste this code:
- Name the file clean_notification and save it with .bat extension .
- Click the file. If asked, always confirm the you want to open it.
- Basically, this file will clean the notification area, only leaving the icon which are active.
taskkill /im explorer.exe /f
reg delete “HKCU\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify” /v IconStreams /f
reg delete “HKCU\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify” /v PastIconsStream /f
start “Shell Restarter” /d “%systemroot%” /i /normal explorer.exe
[Thanks, Tad]
