If you create documents using Microsoft Word you should know pretty well that you can add photos, pictures and images to make them look better, more professional etc. The bad part of this procedure is that, by adding a picture, you increase the file size. This could be an issue above all if you have to send them via email (some web client doesn’t accept big files or limit the file size to X Mb for example). What follows is a tutorial to teach you how to turn on and off (enable or disable) the picture compression in Word and use it for your own benefit.
How to Turn On Pictures Compression in Word
- Open the Word document (.doc or docx) which contains pictures.
- Now, click the picture you want to make lighter. This will turn on the Picture Tool on Word upper toolbar.
- Click the Picture Tool.
- Locate the Adjust box and click the Compress Pictures link.
- A dialog blox will appear asking you if you want to apply the compression only to the picture you highlighed.
- Tick the box and press the OK button.
- Done!
How to Turn Off Pictures Compression in Word

it is such a pity that one has to write a tutorial on how to do this. AND it’s missing the possibility to turn that annoying feature off!
