For obvious reasons, in Internet Explorer 9 the default search engine is Bing by Microsoft. Majority of users prefer Google since it provides better results. This tutorial will show you, in a couple of easy steps, how to add or change the default search engine in Internet Explorer 9 with another one you like.
- Open Internet Explorer 9.
- Now, type a keyword in the address bar.
- As soon as you start typing, the suggestions will appear on the screen.
- Click the Add button located on the bottom-right side of the suggestion box.
- At this point you will be redirected to a special page called Add-ons Page.
- Click Add to Internet Explorer.
- This special page contain all search engines. Click Google Search Suggestion.
- A pop-up window will appear on the screen.
- Click OK.
- If you wish to add the search engine you just picked as a default one, tick Make this my default search provider.
If instead you wish to remove the default search engine, follow these easy steps:
- Open Internet Explorer 9.
- Press Alt . This will let you gain access to the Toolbar.
- Click Tool and Manage add-ons.
- On the left panel, select Search Providers.
- Choose a search engine on the right pane.
- At the end of the window, click the Remove button.
- Alternatively, you can also press the Set as Default if you wish to set the search engine as you favorite one.

Does not work for me. Not sure which software set google as my default. Want to set back to bing but did not work even though bing is the only one on the add-ons list.
