windows 7On of the first things your Windows 7 does when you make a fresh installation on a computer or laptop is to ask you for the computer user name and organization. What you type will be displayed on Windows 7 as the computer owner in the About Windows section of your machine. If for any reason you wish to change the user name, this quick hack will show you how to change the computer name in a couple of steps.

  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search field type regedit and press Enter.
  3. In the Registry, locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion.
  4. In the left pane, double-click  RegisteredOwner and RegisteredOrganization entries.
  5. Assign as Value Data the new name you wish to use.
  6. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
