gamevance removal

Lately a lot of users are trying to uninstall and remove a new Internet pestware called Gamevance textlinks. Basically, it is nothing else than  mischievous game advertisements (ads) adware which, once clicked, will install a textlink plugin or extension on your browser. Next time you try to make an Internet search, Gamevance will bring up an advertisement associated with the keyword you are looking for. Useless to say, this causes a lot of annoyance to users which as a consequence will try to get rid of it. Sadly,there is not Gamevance text links removal tool available on the Internet. Furthermore,  as soon as you uninstall  or disable it, the pestware will come back  thanks to a kind of re-installation automated process which is triggered when you re-open your favorite browser or turn on your Windows OS.  At the time writing Gameavance is only affecting Firefox while no annoying issue has been reported in Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. Let’s see how to get rid of it, permanently.

Method 1

This method involves a so-called uninstaller or removal which is directly provided by Gameavance itself. Despite I don’t trust such a method, I have read on forums that some users manage to successfully uninstall it, so I guess that it is safe to give it a try.

  1. Download and run the official Gameavance uninstaller.
  2. Once the software has finished do not forget to restart your computer to delete Gamevance leftovers.

Method 2

Uninstall and delete the hated extension using the Add/Remove Programs feature in your computer Control Panel.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs -Uninstall Programs.
  4. From the list of installed software, locate the Gamevance software and uninstall it.

Method 3

If you have downloaded the Gamevance extension for Firefox, uninstall it with this procedure.

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Add-ons.
  4. Locate the add-on and remove it by clicking the Uninstall button.

Now, t make sure that no junk file has been left in our computer, let’s remove old folders and files associated with the add-on. Such “leftovers” are responsible for future automated reinstallation of the software.

  1. Open Windows Explorer
  2. Locate C:\Documents and Settings\Username\ Application Data\ Mozilla\Extensions.
  3. Delete the Gameveance folder.
  4. If you can not locate it, it means that it has been hidden by default, so on your Windows Explorer upper toolbar, click Tools – Folder Options and check View hidden folders.
  5. Now, click Start and in the search field (windows 7) or Run field (Windows Vista), type Regedit and press Enter.
  6. Locate and delete the following registry keys (if available):
  7. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\ Run “Gamevance” = %ProgramFiles%\Gamevance\gamevance32.exe
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Gamevance
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ TypeLib\ {1d22e9e4-f771-4b8d-aa68-ba04e8980e07}
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ {7370f91f-6994-4595-9949-601fa2261c8d}
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Browser Helper Objects\ {7370f91f-6994-4595-9949-601fa2261c8d}

  8. Done!

    Hmm… my friend has it on his computer… i’ve been google’ing like mad attempting to find a way to delete it… malwarebytes doesn’t touch it… and a few others hes tried hasn’t done much. but from what i’ve seen it reloads itself so its not indestructible just tricky. delete it based on your browser (2 of the major 3 detailed on this webpage) then attempt to find a way to delete the file associated with its reload.. not sure how to do that… once i am though ill try and link it back here since this seems to be pretty google search-able.

    I did a manual uninstall, including deleting what I could find to definitely be GV related in the Registry, and the irritating textlinks were still prevalent in Chrome. Searching “remove gamevance chrome” is what landed me here, and since you note that it’s no issues are reported with Chrome, I thought you’d want to know.

    In Chrome, click the wrench, choose TOOLS, then EXTENSIONS, then uninstall Gamevance. All seems to be well now. I guess we’ll see after re-boot.
