facebook chat bar Facebook embeds a nice chat bar which lets you chat in real time with your friends. If you are not interested in such a feature, you might want to remove and turn it off for good. I already wrote something similar when I posted the article on how to disable Facebook chat box. However this time I will show you how to remove the chat bar for your Facebook profile. The trick is very simple and invoke the use of the special Facebebook security address which, by default, doesn’t have any chat feature.

  1. Login to your Facebook account.
  2. Now, simply add this secure Facebook address to your browser address field: https://www.facebook.com/home.php
  3. The whole tricks here is the https which is a secure address version of the default facebook default web address.
  4. Press Enter.
  5. You will notice that the Facebook chat bar has been removed!
  6. On the bottom right side a small icon will warn you that the chat is disabled!

This doesn’t work for me unfortunately. Still get the annoying chat box.

It never used to bother me but recently it seems to auto log-in to chat and I can’t find the option to stop it!

I use firefox and unfortunately, this didn’t work for me either.

Thanks for the info. It worked for me in Firefox but I found that I was unable to play games such as Farmville and Frontierville using a secure connection.

Anyway, it will be useful to know this in future. Thanks again.

Doesn’t work on Firefox. Any other suggestions to try? The chat bar would be annoying on any screen, but on a tiny netbook screen, it just covers up too much necessary information

  8. marieke Says:

    Nop, didn’t work here

  9. MB Says:

I couldn’t imagine how that would work. And it didn’t. Any better ideas?

I work as an I.T. tech. This worked perfectly for me and 5 users I support. Yesterday, something changed on Facebook and we are all auto-logging in again. This trick no longer works. I’m still showing as secure but now chat works. Boooooerns!!!
