disk is write protectedJennifer, a great Web Talk reader, has recently contacted me to ask  how to remove a write protection message from her new memory card (sdd, mmc etc.) which doesn’t let her copy anything from  Windows 7, Vista or XP to the card. The message she gets is  the following: “Cannot copy (filename).  The Disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk”.  The first thing I asked her was to check the little write-protection switch located on the side of the card (it is almost invisible) and make sure it was  not set to “off”. She told me that everything was all right.  In fact, she had managed to use the card for a couple of days till, all of a sudden, the weird message started popping up on her computer. After browsing the Internet I found the following solution which worked perfectly! Continue reading »

windows 7 sp1 won't downloadWindows 7 official SP1 was released a few days ago. However, for a lot of users it is not available yet through Windows 7 interface, Basically, Windows 7 SP1 won’t show or download via the well-known Windows Update interface. Apart from obvious reason s such as user didn’t check for updates etc. there are some less obvious factors that are important as well, but quite unknown, which might have prevented your Windows 7 from showing Service Pack as update. My personal recommendation is to read such article before going to some Bittorent website and try to download SP1 because there is not anything more secure, trusted and “clean” than the official package provided by Microsoft itself. recover deleted filesHaving a USB stick doesn’t mean that your files are secure! In fact, it is very common to look for applications able to recover and retrieve your deleted files (such as photos, pictures, documents etc.) from external hard drives . Such files might be deleted and erased because of a virus, for example. Other times instead, you could have messed with the pendrive and deleted your private files beyond recovery!  Whatever the reason it is always important to remember that there is not safe place where to store our important stuff. Personally speaking I save my documents and other private data on CDs and DVDs as they are not subject to consumption since don’t have any mechanical part! The following free utility will let you retrieve your lost or hidden files from any external device in a couple of easy steps. Continue reading »

open multiple=If you have got two or even multiple Facebook accounts you might be at loss at how to open and manage them at the same time on the same computer and from the same browser such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox! In the past I have already written about such a topic in case you have multiple Gmail accounts or you wish to open mutiple Google Talks in Windows 7. However, as far as Facebook is concerned, the solution is pretty simple and straightforward as it doesn’t require any special application or software. All you will have to do is use your favorite browser, a nice addon and login your Facebook account right away! Yes, I know that normally Facebook doesn’t allow you to use two accounts on the same browser, for example. But thanks to a nice workaround you will be able to trick Facebook into thinking that you are using only a profile! Continue reading »
