ie9One of the new features available in Internet Explorer 9 (ie9) lets you preview the most popular websites (as thumbnails) as soon as you open the browser. Such a feature is extremely useful every time you want to look for your favorite websites or wish to open a blog without browsing your bookmarks. The downside of it is that Internet Explorer 9 might end up showing you, upon opening its main window,  some “embarrassing” websites you visited a couple of days ago and you forgot about. This brief guide will show you how to activate and turn on the Most Popular Site feature on ie9 and how to turn it off in a couple of clicks!

If you want to turn on Most Popular Site in Internet Explorer 9 follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer 9.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. In the General tab, under the Home Page section, add About:Tabs in the  field.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Next time you will open Internet Explorer 9 you will face a special page which  will show you your latest visited websites

If you don’t like such a feature and wish to disable and turn it off, follow these easy steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer 9.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. In the General tab, go under the Tab section and click the Settings button.
  5. Under the “When a new tab is opened, open” section, select Your First Home Page from the drop-down menu.

This actually does not turn it off – it does not disable it either !
This method just decides on what you see when you open a new tab – the popular sites is still running and if someone else wants to know what you were looking at, all they have to do is turn it back to the way it was – open a new tab and bang – they can see everything again without you being aware of it. I want to shut it off … it’s a stupid breach of privacy enforced by google who have no concept of user privacy which is why their staff are using your data to stalk you – as reported in the news.
