If you have recently installed AVG Free antivirus you might have noticed the new, annoying AVG Security Search Toolbar in your Firefox and Internet Explorer browser. Such a toolbar, apart from offering you interesting features/shortcuts to the AVG antivirus, it also protects your surfing by blocking dangerous and infected websites before opening them. Such a feature is called AVG Secure Search. A lot of users don’t like this toolbar and the way it monitors the Internet and are trying to uninstall and remove it in order to experience a free web surfing. If you don’t like the idea of being “watched” while you surf the Internet, if you don’t like the idea that the AVG Toolbar automatically sets the default search engine on your browser, (it sets Google as default search engine and adds to its page an AVG Safe Search logo), I have found a couple of tutorials which will get rid of the toolbar in a breeze! As you know, if you live outside USA territories and try to visit the local US Google homepage, you will be automatically redirected to your country Google homepage (such as: Google.co.uk, Google.it etc) without any chance to modify this behaviour as there are not options to play with in the Google settings. This can be particularly troublesome, above all if you are looking for English-American websites as the US Google version contains a more complete list of such webpages. What follows is a nice, simple hack that will let you permanently set Google.com as you official homepage in Google Chrome. Continue reading »

Today I want to write about an original way to read your Gmail emails when you can not find an Internet connection (offline mode). You’ll have to use Google Chrome and a very easy to set Chrome extension. Continue reading »

By default, every time you open a new Tab on Internet Explorer 9 (ie9) by using the Tab button, a new tab will be created right away. Now, the issue with such a tab is that it contains a list (thumbnails or previews) of your most visited/popular websites. This can be kind of embarrassing above all if you like visiting “hot” or “not-reccomended” websites. This brief tutorial will show you how to generate a blank tab or page in Internet Explorer 9 and keep your privacy safe! Continue reading »

Every time you perform a search query on Google the search engine, by default, will return a magnifying glass icon next to each search results. If you click it, Google will show a small preview (thumbnail) of the Web page Google found for you (Google Instant Preview) . Such feature is activated by default and it is not possible to turn it off in any way. A lot of users find it quite annoying because if, by mistake, you click the magnifying glass on the first result of any Google search page, hovering your mouse pointer on any other results will automatically open the relative thumbnail. Let’s see how to hide such a feature thanks to a simple, free extension! Continue reading »
