Favicons are those small icons that appear on Google Chrome and Firefox tabs and on the Web address bar (in this case favicons are located on the right-side of the URL). Such small favicons are nothing else than small symbols, icons, pictures etc that represents the website the browser is displaying. If you don’t want your browser to display them, I have got a small hack that will let you remove and delete such favicons by turning off a small option located among Firefox and Google Chrome settings.
Turn off site_icons option in Firefox
- Open Firefox.
- In the web address bar, type: about:config and press Enter.
- A message should appear on the screen warning you that you are about to gain access to the settings section. Just click the button and go ahead.
- In the filter blank field, type browser.chrome.favicons and press Enter.
- Double click the key and change its value to False.
- Again, in the Filter blank field, type: browser.chrome.site_icons and press Enter.
- Double click the key and change its value to False.
- Now, close the tab and restart Firefox.
- Done!
Hide Favicons extension for Google Chrome
- Open your Google Chrome and go to the No Favicons extension webpage.
- Once the webpage is fully download on your Chrome window, click the Add to Chrome button located at the top-right side of the window.
- A pop-up window will appear on the screen. Click the Install button.
- Done! From now on, whenever your Chrome will display a website or a blog, the small extension will delete its favicon right away!
