This news is something incredible for those having a blog on Wordpress.com. In fact starting from the 21st of this month bloggers will enjoy a free of charge upgrade that will increase their upload space from 50mb to 3,000mb. Matt Mullenweg makes us all notice how Wordpress nearest competitor, Typepad just offers 1Gb of space for a $300 yearly fee.

In the last years the blogging platforms have increased so much that it is very difficult to keep track of all of them. We all started to use Mambo that still exists but seems to be to its last gasps, we moved to Joomla!, a very good professional platform and we, or I’d better say “I” ended-up using Wordpress for its easiness. Today I want to speak about a brand new platform whose name is Chyrp. It is a CMS for those who wish to have something really simple and easy to use, even easier that Wordpress. From its website we read that: ” Chyrp is a blogging engine designed to be very lightweight while retaining functionality. It is driven by PHP and MySQL (with some AJAX thrown in), and has a pimpin’ theme and module engine; so you can personalize it however you want. All of your content is powered by a unique Feathers system that allows Chyrp to be whatever you want it to be. You can post anything or everything, or just stick to the default Text feather and run a regular blog.”

So, that’s the news of the day. Due to the holidays and the changes that will take place in the codebase and the administration section, the 2.4 version of Wordpress that was expected by January has been skipped to go directly to the 2.5 version scheduled in March. Stay tuned for more infos.

But all this is going to change. In fact a group of independent developers has created a software called Open MP3 Player that, as you may guess, lets you play your favorite Mp3s on your TomTom One. The Wordpress 2.4 release is scheduled for January 24, 2008 and it is going to be another milestone for this wonderful CMS. Its new features include:

I am just wondering when they will implement the useful and much requested Easy Updating plugin that actually is the first thing most people would love to have since the Wordpress releases are (luckily for us) so many. By the way, I have already spoken about a very good Automatic upgrade plugin.
