Despite the fact Palm is doing its best to protect its new baby phone, a nice guy managed to post some leaked pictures of it, making Palm’s efforts totally pointless. The picture you can see below shows you the new Treo 850 which , if you ask me, looks like the Palm Centro a little too much. It sports a 400 MHz processor and 100 MB of RAM and the awful Windows Mobile. I don’t understand why Palm is prone to stuff into its devices Windows Mobile more and more. I mean, Palm has its own operating system which is fast, reliable, simple, easy to use and rich of applications. Why the hack does it have to use Billy’s software? Does it really need it so badly?

Hey, did you know that I have spotted another ultraportable which is going to be released soon? You are not surprised at all? Well, this time you should! In fact this new little jewel is different from other ultraportables I have reviewed, because it is a crossover among different things, without speaking about its small dimensions. But let’s see its most important features:
- 163 x 67 x 24.5-mm, 387-grams, shaped into a brick like structure.
- 4-inch, 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen.
- 1GHz VIA C7M ULV processor.
- 4GB of DDR2 memory.
- Dual boot between Windows XP and Linux Qplus.
- Cellphone capability.
- 1.3-inch 60GB hard disk or 4GB SSD.
- 802.11b/g WiFi, Blueooth 2.0.
- 5 megapixel camera.
- mobile television and external GPS add-on
So, this little baby is many things in one. Luckily for us its price is not that expensive since it is not the sum of all the devices it embodies! In fact it will cost around $500 and will be released in July. I like its design and despite the fact that it is a little too bulky and too brick-like, I think that will meet many people’s favours. My only doubt is when devices like that have lots of features coming from different devices, they end up doing almost nothing at their best. Let’s hope this device will be an exception!
If you own one of the gorgeous Treo 600 or 650 you know that, with the release of the super gorgeous Treo 700w, many new, exciting features are available to the lucky owners of this new model. Two of the most wanted ones are, without any doubt, SMS response and Voicemail pad (VMP). I have to confess you that, when the Treo 700w hit the market, as a proud owner of a Treo 650, I was quite envious of these two features which missed in my Palm device. Things were going to change anyway. As a matter of fact a not-very-famous company (which is strongly committed to develop Palm software) called Ludos released a nice piece of software called LudosW. Let’s see its most important features:
- SMS response (Yeah!): When you can not take a phone call, LudosW will send a customised SMS to the caller, signaling you are buys or in a meeting. This feature is completely customizable and it lets you send different messages to different numbers, automatically substitute personalized information-first name, last name, or even company from your Contacts. Of course it also sends automatic SMS.
- Voicemail Pad (again, Yeah!):Why should you remember all those annoying voicemail key presses, when LudosW can do it for you? This feature gives you the chance to automatically enter the password for you when you pop up VMP. It can change the buttons to suit your needs and comes with presets for the major carriers built-in.

Have you ever wished to chat on your nice Zire 72, TX handheld, Palm Treo and all those devices Palm powered? If your reply is “Yes”, then I have got the right software for you. Mundu is a nice software that lets you do what till some time ago was unthinkable: chat online with your friends on a palm handheld! This nice, wonderful but rather unknown piece of software is quite rich of features:
- Compatible with Yahoo, AIM, MSN and ICQ.
- Independent Mundu Messaging Service.
- Wizard procedure to connect your device to the Internet.
- Cross Conferencing to chat with people having different Messaging Services.
- Background mode to continue working on your device while chatting at the same time.
- Emoticons.
- Rich text to customize the font and the color of your writing.
- Status (online, busy, offline, invisible etc.).
I have this software on my Treo 650 and I have to tell you that I like it a lot. It is very light and fast and require no knowledge to make it work. It is ideal if you want to stay in touch with your friends and family while on the go! If you want to know more about it click here.
If you have already read my previous post about Palm dictionaries you should know that I like carrying some of them in my Treo 650. English language is not my mother-tongue and sometimes when I find a new word I don’t know the meaning of, I am compelled to use the dictionary. But why carry a big, bulky paper dictionary when instead I can have all that I need of in my device? Today I want to speak of another good Palm application I bought some months ago. Its name is MSDict and lets you have some of the most famous dictionaries in your Palm powered device. I personally have the excellent Oxford English Dictionary (English-English) which, useless to say, it is a must if you are learning English language. Let’s see some of its features:
- Over 240,000 Words and Phrases
- Over 365,000 alternative and opposite words
- Word pronunciations
- Thesaurus
- History of words
The application itself that makes the dictionary work has some interesting features too namely:
- Random word (to play with different new English words)
- Word of the day
- Wordbook (to put new words in a list for fast retrieving)
- Qwerty keyboard
- Different split modes (that let you manage the screen of your device in different ways e.g. the upper part for English words while the lower part for their meanings)
- Appendixes list
- Previous and next word button
- Add/view note
- Quick dynamic search of words while you type
- Hyperlinks between different words
Among the dictionaries and applications for MSDict you can choose in the website you can also find: Collin dictionary, Cambridge dictionary, Office suite and System Diet. If you want to know more click here.
But what’s DV? DV is the new tool that broadcasts any TV signals. The way it works it is rather simple. In fact it gets any digital TV signal, converts it and sends it to any device of your choice. It sports a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, an on/off led and its measures are: 6.4 cm wide by 1.8 cm high x 4 cm deep. The mobile broadcast receiver will be available in different versions for every mobile broadcast standard such as TDtv, DVB-H, MediaFLO and WiMAX. It will be compatible with: Nokia N-series, Apple iPhone and HTC Smartphone devices. No word about its price or the release day although we know that it will be available sometime this year.
While I am out or studying, a big concern of mine is to have everything I may need in my pocket, I mean in my Treo. That said, why not have a whole set of dictionaries translating everything for me, just in case I meet a new foreign word, when I am on vacation in some exotic place? Other times instead, I may just need a regular English dictionary because I want to look for a synonymous or, why not, for a certain word I don’t know the meaning of (well, English is not my mother tongue). That’s why I have a lot of dictionaries. Here is a comprehensive list of what I have or have tried. Continue reading »
