It was going to happen of course. After Wii, Nintendo Ds and iPhone it is now the turn of PlayStation 3 to be hacked for homebrew purposes! The guy who made it, is called Dragula96 and it is a very famous PSP hacker. Basically he managed to bypass all PlayStation protections and write a little Hello World proof of concept on the screen, thanks to a 60GB and 40GB PS3, running the current 2.20 firmware. Well, it is not what you were expecting, right? Keep in mind that PS3 homebrew is a pretty new thing, so you will have to wait some more time before seeing games and stuff like that. In the meantime watch the video to discover how it was possible to hack the PS3.

gomessenger.jpgIf you have one of those nice PSP you may wonder if, apart from using Skype to call your friends and their phones, you can use a special software to chat and, why not, see people you care for. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and British Telecommunications (BT) have just introduced Go!Messenger which is a nice webcam (and the proper software of course) that once plugged into your PSP lets you chat, speak and see your friends, family members and whoever you want, wherever you are. Let’s read the press release: “With Go!Messenger, the PSP is pushing new boundaries, adding unique communication features to all the existing multimedia experiences,” said Stephane Hareau, PSP European Marketing Manager. “Enabling more than 8.5 Million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through Video or Voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP.” Ps:

mylo-and-widgets.jpgIf you have bought a nice Mylo Com-2 and you are finally trying to understand how it works, well I want to tell you that soon you will have to start all over again! As a matter of fact Sony is about to introduce a wonderful website for your Mylo full…of widgets! The website, which is reachable here, is called Mylo Lab and it is a place where people who have a Mylo and Widget creators clash togheter to share their knowledge and their brand new applications. So far, the website has a handful of widgets that can be viewed and downloaded here, but soon, I am more than sure about this, there will be more available. The little applications are open-source (since Mylo itself is Linux based) so you don’t have to spend a dime to get them. Finally Sony is starting to understand how things work. People buying these kind of devices (another good example is the excellent Nokia n810) want to have something dynamic in their hands. They want to see their little babies growing and getting bigger and full of nice applications to play with, and not something that keep them bounded to a handful of program they didn’t even have the chance to choose. Customize is the keyword. Kudos for Sony!

Well, in this case we are about to envy our European neighborhood. In fact it seems that people living in the old, good Europe are close to get PlayTv (that is a piece of software) for their beloved Play Station 3, which will allow to watch TV with the console. The software features include:

  • Program guide
  • Pause and rewind options
  • Recording options
  • Ability to work with PlayStation Portable via Remote Play to watch Tv from anywhere with a WiFi connection

No word about the release day or the price has been said yet. For more infos watch the video

default-medium.jpgThis is a news I really want to report because, well, I am a big fan of Wii (I own one of it). I hope PS3 and Xbox guys are not feeling offended but, the guys at iSuppli are projecting that somewhere this year, Wii will overcome Xbox 360, becoming in this way the first console most sold in the world. The analysis puts the number of sold Wii over 30 millions compared to Xbox that anyway will manage to sell a considerable 26 millions, and PS3 that will reach around 25,7 millions. I am more than happy about this news and I hope we will see more consideration from the big game companies toward this little console, that only too often has been neglected. Wi is the real revolution that, thanks to its innovative way of playing and its cheap price, has totally changed the way people play with videogames. Kudos for Wii!

According to some rumors, the 80GB version of the Playstation 3 is dead to make room to a new version that will sport 120GB and will be bundled with the Dual Shock 3 controller. No word on the release day or its price.

skype.jpgI remember when news used to be reliable, very reliable and you could trust them. Nowadays it is not like that anymore. In fact a few days after I wrote a post on PSP and the fact that the guys at Sony had delayed the availability of Skype due to microphone/speaker which failed to meet Skype certification standards, what do we have here? A brand new PSP 3.90 firmware update that includes Spype (just for PSP-2000 series.). This news is very glad, but Sony should stop playing with us. We are not videogames, are we?

skypeWell, this is a rumor but it is worth being told. It looks like Sony is thinking to bring Skype to its famous PSP. If this is gonna be true, PSP will defeat all its rivals like Nintendo Ds, for sure. It ’s clear that the direction all these little devices are taking is (or should be) to have different applications doing different things: mp3 player, image viewer, camera, document reader, phone call etc are just some example of what an ideal device should be supposed to do. Coming back to PSP there are not details so far about the above rumor, but I bet we will know more from the upcoming CES. Stay tuned for more news!

Update: Sony has just released a press report saying that an indefinite delay will hit the project due to the PSP microphone/speaker which failed to meet Skype certification standards.

Update: The update that includes Skype has just been released. I apologize for what I wrote in the update above but it is not my fault. It looks like the guys at Sony like to make fun of all of us. Anyway, they are forgiven since Skype is really appreciated!
