irex

iRex has been the first company to ever launch on the market the first e-book reader. It was not what I had dreamed of, it was not nice and sexy, it was not cheap but hey, it could read e-books, some files and take notes in a breeze. Well, despite all its downsides I really loved it. A few days ago iRex launched its new e-book reader called iLiad Book Edition e-book reader. This time the guys at iRex have decided to stuff in their little baby a lot of features and, in fact, they have included:

  • 8.1-inch XGA display, 16 grayscale.
  • 400MHZ XScale CPU, 64MB RAM.
  • 256MB flash memory, USB, MMC, and CF slots.
  • It can read PDF, HTML, TXT, Mobipocket, JPG, BMP, and PNG.
  • Built-in 802.11B/G wireless capability.
  • Ability to update RSS feeds.
  • It allows you to read and write for up to 12 hours without recharging the battery.
  • Touch sensor input.

Its price is set at €499 ($770 US). No word about its release date. If you want to know more, visit iRex website.

Last month I spoke about the new CyBook e-book reader which promised to get rid of your dusty book shelves, forever. It is today’s news that Cybook has been improved, really a lot. In fact now it sports 512MB of storage (480MB is available for storage), a better stable firmware (version 1.1), improved battery life and a more reactive button interface. Its price is set at $350 for the Standard version, $450 for the Deluxe version. If you want to buy this fantastic e-book reader, click here. As usual it supports the following formats: Mobipocket PRC, PalmDoc, HTML, TXT, PDF, image (JPG, GIF, PNG), sound (MP3), fonts (TTF).

A few days ago I spoke about the nice and cool Jetbook and now what do we have here? Another e-paper promising you to get rid of your dusty book shelves! • Resolution 600×800 .
  • Processor Samsung 200MHz.
  • Linux Operative System.
  • Weight: 174 g including battery.
  • Battery: 1000 mAh Li-polymer battery letting you refresh the screen 8,000 times.
  • SD support, mini USB.

You understood it right. The new e-book reader promises you to get rid of your dusty, bulky books in a while, thanks to its new stunning technology. But let’s see in detail its features:

  • Bright screen.
  • 5-inch grayscale screen.
  • Pre-loaded translating dictionaries.
  • Multi-language support.
  • MP3 reader.
  • Supports .txt, .pdf and .jpg file formats.
  • Bookmarks and auto page turn functionality.
  • Portrait & landscape mode.
  • SD card slot.

If you are doubtful about buying it or not, maybe its price will convince you. In fact it costs just $349.95! If you ask me I think it is much better than its Amazon Kindle counterpart as it is well designed, richer of features and with a nice color full of personality! If you want to buy one or if you want to know more click here.

lgphilipsIt looks like LG is about to hit the market very hard with its new Electronic Paper promising us to substitute our paper books. The flexible thing is 14.3-inch with a resolution of 16.7 million colors (1,280 x 800 pixels). Its battery can last for 7,000 hours between charges (this is the real wow!).

“Our new 14.3-inch flexible color display is nearly the equivalent size of an A4 size paper, but you can roll it up and take it with you,” said Mr. In-Jae Chung, LG.Philips LCD’s chief technology officer and executive vice president. “The reflective foil substrate is as easy to read as a printed sheet of paper and can be used in a number of applications like electronic textbooks and smart ID cards, where picture quality is as important as durability and portability.”
