After the famous article of mine talking about the possibility for Nokia N810 Internet Tablet to emulate Palm operating system, now I want to talk about another big opportunity for those of you guys who own the famous Nokia device. As a matter of fact, did you know that you can run Android on N810 and that you can do it in a few easy steps? Don’t you believe me? OK, here is the step-by-step procedure.
- The first thing to do is to download and save the android.img.bz2 image file on the N810 (internal memory or miniSD card; 110MB free space required).
- After that download and install the android-installer.deb file (Settings -> Application manager -> Install from file).
- Reboot your Nokia N810 and launch Android through the Extras menu.
- Done. As you see the procedure to launch Android is very simple, so simple that even a Linux dummy can do it! Enjoy!

If you own one of the gorgeous N800 or N810 internet tablet well, it is about to reflash! As a matter of fact the guys at Maemo have just released the new update for the little Nokia device’s operating system namely OS 2008 (Maemo 4.1). This second update (read more about the first update here) is rich of features, but before speaking about them I want to point out the fact that future releases will be available over-the-air. This means that you won’t have to reflash the tablet anymore and lose all of your data! That’s a big piece of news indeed! “Further OS updates will be made available over-the-air, without needing to reflash. Now users will get automatic notifications in the home screen about the availability of OS updates or single applications, including those installed from third parties. This works only over WLAN connections. It is still possible to check for updates manually from the Application manager.” The most important additions to the operating system this update provides are an open source email application based on Modest and the tinymail framework, simplified account setup and the introduction of Chinese character rendering support in email, browser and RSS feeds. But what if the N810 was able to emulate Palm OS? Well, in this story there is no if! As a matter of fact a software company called Access managed to create a Palm OS emulator machine called Garnet VM for the Nokia Internet Tablet (770, N800, N810). Too good to be true? Not at all! Choose from a wide variety of application types including, document processors, database managers, messaging, enhanced PIMs, life management tools, and more.” Did you hear it right? Now you have the chance to run on your N810 hundreds of palm applications, including games! Oh yes, the price… who knows how much it costs, right? Well, it looks like news are not finished yet.
