Despite the fact Palm is doing its best to protect its new baby phone, a nice guy managed to post some leaked pictures of it, making Palm’s efforts totally pointless. The picture you can see below shows you the new Treo 850 which , if you ask me, looks like the Palm Centro a little too much. It sports a 400 MHz processor and 100 MB of RAM and the awful Windows Mobile. I don’t understand why Palm is prone to stuff into its devices Windows Mobile more and more. I mean, Palm has its own operating system which is fast, reliable, simple, easy to use and rich of applications. Why the hack does it have to use Billy’s software? Does it really need it so badly?
So, one of the few things preventing me from buying another device (read Nokia N810) is my fear not to find all the stuff I am accustomed to, namely all the nice things my palm applications (coming from my Treo 650) are able to do. But what if the N810 was able to emulate Palm OS? Well, in this story there is no if! As a matter of fact a software company called Access managed to create a Palm OS emulator machine called Garnet VM for the Nokia Internet Tablet (770, N800, N810). Too good to be true? Not at all! Reading from the company website: “Garnet VM enables Nokia Nseries users to run thousands of Garnet OS (formerly Palm OS®) applications. Garnet VM supports some of the most popular applications in the mobile market including, Google Maps™, Snappermail®, DateBk5 and perennially popular games like Bejeweled®, PacMan and Sudoku. Choose from a wide variety of application types including, document processors, database managers, messaging, enhanced PIMs, life management tools, and more.” Did you hear it right? Now you have the chance to run on your N810 hundreds of palm applications, including games! Oh yes, the price… who knows how much it costs, right? Well, it looks like news are not finished yet. Ok, take a deep breath and relax. Ready? The Palm emulator is for free! Just fill in a short form and you are done! Don’t you believe me? Visit this page.
As you know (or you should) I have a fantastic Treo 650. I like it a lot, but what I really like about it, is its smooth Palm operative system. So far I have not got any issue with Palm or with its devices (in fact I also have a Zire 72). The software is simple but effective, and because of this it doesn’t stuck so frequently as other operative systems do (read Microsoft). Well, it looks like some guy managed to run Palm operative system on…iPhone! Wait wait wait, not so fast. The guy is not thinking to release any software or beta. I know, he is being mean. But for the joy of all of us here is a video of him.
Wish you were able to buy from the Palm store that nice smartphone but you can’t because you are not from the States and the phone is locked with the American carriers?? Well, think twice! Palm is now selling its shining Treo 750 UNLOCKED version for about 549$. What are you waiting for? Buy it now here.
