ludus.gifIf you own one of the gorgeous Treo 600 or 650 you know that, with the release of the super gorgeous Treo 700w, many new, exciting features are available to the lucky owners of this new model. Two of the most wanted ones are, without any doubt, SMS response and Voicemail pad (VMP). I have to confess you that, when the Treo 700w hit the market, as a proud owner of a Treo 650, I was quite envious of these two features which missed in my Palm device. Things were going to change anyway. As a matter of fact a not-very-famous company (which is strongly committed to develop Palm software) called Ludos released a nice piece of software called LudosW. Let’s see its most important features:

  • SMS response (Yeah!): When you can not take a phone call, LudosW will send a customised SMS to the caller, signaling you are buys or in a meeting. This feature is completely customizable and it lets you send different messages to different numbers, automatically substitute personalized information-first name, last name, or even company from your Contacts. Of course it also sends automatic SMS.
  • Voicemail Pad (again, Yeah!):Why should you remember all those annoying voicemail key presses, when LudosW can do it for you? This feature gives you the chance to automatically enter the password for you when you pop up VMP. It can change the buttons to suit your needs and comes with presets for the major carriers built-in.

mundu.jpgHave you ever wished to chat on your nice Zire 72, TX handheld, Palm Treo and all those devices Palm powered? If your reply is “Yes”, then I have got the right software for you. Mundu is a nice software that lets you do what till some time ago was unthinkable: chat online with your friends on a palm handheld! This nice, wonderful but rather unknown piece of software is quite rich of features:

  • Compatible with Yahoo, AIM, MSN and ICQ.
  • Independent Mundu Messaging Service.
  • Wizard procedure to connect your device to the Internet.
  • Cross Conferencing to chat with people having different Messaging Services.
  • Background mode to continue working on your device while chatting at the same time.
  • Emoticons.
  • Rich text to customize the font and the color of your writing.
  • Status (online, busy, offline, invisible etc.).

I have this software on my Treo 650 and I have to tell you that I like it a lot. It is very light and fast and require no knowledge to make it work. It is ideal if you want to stay in touch with your friends and family while on the go! If you want to know more about it click here.

750-treo.jpgIf you have already read my previous post about Palm dictionaries you should know that I like carrying some of them in my Treo 650. English language is not my mother-tongue and sometimes when I find a new word I don’t know the meaning of, I am compelled to use the dictionary. But why carry a big, bulky paper dictionary when instead I can have all that I need of in my device? Today I want to speak of another good Palm application I bought some months ago. Its name is MSDict and lets you have some of the most famous dictionaries in your Palm powered device. I personally have the excellent Oxford English Dictionary (English-English) which, useless to say, it is a must if you are learning English language. Let’s see some of its features:

  • Over 240,000 Words and Phrases
  • Over 365,000 alternative and opposite words
  • Word pronunciations
  • Thesaurus
  • History of words

The application itself that makes the dictionary work has some interesting features too namely:

  • Random word (to play with different new English words)
  • Word of the day
  • Wordbook (to put new words in a list for fast retrieving)
  • Qwerty keyboard
  • Different split modes (that let you manage the screen of your device in different ways e.g. the upper part for English words while the lower part for their meanings)
  • Appendixes list
  • Previous and next word button
  • Add/view note
  • Quick dynamic search of words while you type
  • Hyperlinks between different words

Among the dictionaries and applications for MSDict you can choose in the website you can also find: Collin dictionary, Cambridge dictionary, Office suite and System Diet. If you want to know more click here.

750-treo.jpgWhile I am out or studying, a big concern of mine is to have everything I may need in my pocket, I mean in my Treo. That said, why not have a whole set of dictionaries translating everything for me, just in case I meet a new foreign word, when I am on vacation in some exotic place? Other times instead, I may just need a regular English dictionary because I want to look for a synonymous or, why not, for a certain word I don’t know the meaning of (well, English is not my mother tongue). That’s why I have a lot of dictionaries. Here is a comprehensive list of what I have or have tried. Continue reading »

immagine.jpgIf you own a fantastic Treo smartphone (but also a Zire, a TX and those devices Palm OS powered) you may wonder how you can use it apart from making phone calls, setting its clock alarm, or write your appointment on its agenda. Well, there are hundreds of applications to extend the range of your phone usage you may not be aware of. Today I want to speak about an application that has really managed to change the way I use my wonderful Treo 650. Megalauncher is a nice application manager that organizes your Treo applications allowing, at the same time, to access your phone SD card within its desktop. In this way you won’t have to switch to your card manager to launch certain programs. Everything is done within the application itself. But Megalauncher is more than that. In fact a whole set of sub-applications are available to extend your phone capabilities to its extreme! The most important features include: Network manager, FTP manager (to access your ftp site from your phone!), Reader manager (to read many kinds of documents), Music manager (to listen to your preferred songs), Image manager, Theme manager (to change the theme of your Megalauncher among the many ones available on its website), ZIP support, backup manager (to backup all the information and programs you stored into your Treo), rapid copying and launching from external cards (triple acceleration), Multi-window mode etc. Megalauncher supports handheld running Palm OS 5.0 or later, Hi-Res (320×320) and Hi-Res Plus (320×480) displays and 16-bit color displays only. Megalancuher is also fully customizable. In fact you can change its icons and sounds or even develop your own iconsets thanks to ML6 IconPack Factory! Try it now and you will become addicted to it right away!
